Every time you use your Mounjaro® pen, you need to prime it before administering your dose. Priming helps make sure the pen and needle are working correctly and removes air from the needle.
Priming uses a small amount of liquid, so the pen is designed to ensure you can receive all four full treatment doses.
Why is there liquid left after my fourth dose?
There are currently two versions of the Mounjaro® pen in circulation.
Original Mounjaro® pen
If you have the original version, which is now being phased out, you may notice some liquid remaining in the pen after your fourth dose.
This is expected and should not be used as an additional or “extra” dose.
The remaining medication is not intended as a fifth treatment dose. You should not attempt to extract or administer it.
Newer Mounjaro® pen
If you have the newer version, the plunger sits further forward in the pen, reducing the residual liquid that was previously visible after the fourth dose.
You may therefore notice little or no liquid remaining after your final dose.
What should I do after my fourth dose?
Whichever version of the Mounjaro® pen you have, it is intended to provide four weekly treatment doses.
Once you have administered all four doses, the pen should be disposed of appropriately, even if you can still see some liquid remaining.
Do not attempt to use any remaining liquid as an additional dose.
