How do I inject Mounjaro®?

Mounjaro® is administered as a subcutaneous injection once a week.

Always follow the instructions supplied with your medication and use Mounjaro® exactly as prescribed.

Step 1 – Prepare your Mounjaro® pen

Before administering your injection:

  • Check that you have the correct medication and prescribed strength.
  • Check that the medication has not expired.
  • Check that the pen is not damaged.
  • Check the appearance of the medicine.
  • Wash your hands before preparing your injection.

Make sure you use a new needle each time you inject. Each pack contains 4 needles for the 4 weekly doses in your Mounjaro® pen.

Attaching a new needle

A new needle must be attached before each injection.

Step 2 – Prime your Mounjaro® pen

Your Mounjaro® pen needs to be primed before every administered dose.

This is different from the Wegovy® FlexTouch® pen, which only requires a flow check before the first injection from each new pen.

Priming helps check that your pen and needle are working correctly before you administer your injection.

Follow the instructions supplied with your medication and watch our step-by-step priming guide:

Step 3 – Choose your injection site

Mounjaro® is injected under the skin.

Suitable injection areas include your:

  • Stomach
  • Thigh
  • Upper arm

Rotate your injection site rather than repeatedly injecting into exactly the same place.

Make sure your chosen injection site is clean before administering your medication.

Step 4 – Administer your injection

Follow the instructions supplied with your Mounjaro® KwikPen to select and administer your prescribed dose.

Insert the needle into your chosen injection site and administer the dose according to the instructions supplied with your medication.

Keep the needle in your skin for the required amount of time to help ensure that the full dose has been administered.

Do not change your prescribed dose unless advised to do so by your prescriber.

Step 5 – Remove and dispose of the needle

After administering your injection, carefully remove the needle from the pen following the instructions supplied with your medication.

Dispose of the used needle immediately in an appropriate sharps bin.

Never reuse a needle and do not store your Mounjaro® pen with the needle attached.

Replace the pen cap after use and store your medication according to the instructions supplied with it.
