Constipation is a very common side effect of Mounjaro® and Wegovy® and can affect more than 1 in 10 users.
There are several things you can try to help manage constipation while taking your treatment.
Keep hydrated
Drink plenty of fluids throughout the day, such as water or herbal tea.
Staying well hydrated can help keep your stools softer and make them easier to pass.
Eat high-fibre foods
Try to include more high-fibre foods in your diet, such as prunes, figs and oats.
Increase your fibre intake gradually and make sure you are also drinking enough fluids.
Keep active
Regular physical activity can help stimulate your bowels. Even regular gentle walks may help if you are experiencing constipation.
Speak to your local pharmacy
Your local pharmacist can advise whether a short-term treatment for constipation may be suitable for you.
Make sure you tell them that you are taking Mounjaro® or Wegovy®, as well as any other medications you use, so they can take this into account when providing advice.
You can also visit the NHS website for more information about managing constipation.

When should I seek urgent medical help?
Seek urgent medical advice if your constipation is accompanied by symptoms such as:
- Significant or severe abdominal pain
- Significant abdominal bloating or swelling
- Vomiting
- Feeling seriously unwell
These symptoms may require further medical assessment and should not be managed as routine constipation.
