Wegovy FlexTouch pens may now arrive without ice packs, cooler bags or cold-chain packaging.
This change follows updated manufacturer guidance from Novo Nordisk and approval from the MHRA. Wegovy FlexTouch pens can now be safely transported below 30°C for up to 48 hours during the final delivery stage.
This is a clinically sound and approved change to the delivery process only.
It does not change: the medication; the quality of the medication; the safety of the medication; the effectiveness of the medication; your dose; how you use your Wegovy pen.
Room temperature does not mean unsafe.
If your Wegovy pen arrives within 48 hours, has not been exposed to temperatures above 30°C, the pen is not damaged or leaking, and the solution is clear and colourless, it remains safe and effective to use.
When your Wegovy arrives, check the parcel and pen as normal. If the pen is unopened and you are not using it straight away, place it in the fridge once received so it continues to be stored correctly until you are ready to use it.
Store unopened Wegovy pens in the main body of the fridge, between 2°C and 8°C, in the original box, away from the cooling element, away from the freezer compartment, and away from direct heat or sunlight.
Once your Wegovy pen is in use, it can be stored either in the fridge or at room temperature below 30°C for up to 6 weeks.
Please contact our Patient Care Team before using your pen if: your parcel was delayed beyond 48 hours and you do not expect to use the pen within 6 weeks; the parcel was left somewhere hot or in direct sunlight; you believe the pen may have been exposed to temperatures above 30°C; the pen or packaging is damaged; the pen has leaked; the liquid is cloudy, coloured or has particles in it; you are unsure whether the pen is safe to use.
Please note: this delivery update applies to Wegovy FlexTouch pens only. Mounjaro remains cold-chain and continues to follow the existing cold-chain delivery process.
